How Paradise Seeds tests its varieties
Like any seed bank, Paradise Seeds has always sought to push the boundaries in terms of breeding stable, high-performance plants. A key element of their research and development program is the continuous testing of their varieties in indoor and outdoor environments, to measure plant capabilities and compare them with other varieties on the market.
Paradise Seeds' varieties are particularly fond of the Mediterranean climate, ideal for pushing plants to their limits. The outdoor environment also enables us to test the plants' resistance to pests and the vagaries of the weather. As part of the Paradise Seeds Test Field, The plants are organically cultivated, fertilized with cow manure and grow with the minimum of human intervention. Checked once a week, the only supplements are a silica-rich solution of Aloe Vera and horsetail, administered towards the end of their lives to keep the plants in good health.
The Paradise Seeds Test Field 2019
In spring 2019, in a secret location in northern Spain, Paradise Seeds planted a sample of its feminized regular and CBD strains to monitor their growth, including Sensi Star, Wappa, Ice Cream, Delahaze, Nebula ll CBD, Durga Mata ll CBD and Lucid Bolt.
Harvesting took place in the last two weeks of October and the results, as Paradise's videos reveal, are impressive. The giant plants performed beyond expectations. Here are a few facts and instructive observations from the Paradise trials team:
- The Delahaze lived up to its reputation as a super sativa, with a height of almost 3 metres, almost as wide, and delivering a payload of 2.1kg in buds!
- In addition to Delahaze, three of Paradise Seeds' best-selling indicas have also experienced enormous growth, producing stalks as thick as a man's arm and with consistent yields: the Ice Cream (harvest yield of 1.4kg), the Sensi Star (1.9kg crop yield) and the Lucid Bolt (1.8kg)
- The Lucid Bolt, a recent variety from the Paradise catalog has shown all its potential: strong growth and buds as big as a green emerald for a yield of 1.8 kg.
- Some varieties have demonstrated incredible terpene combinations: the intense smell and taste of mango for Delahaze and the power of lemon/lime/metal for Sensi Star.
Although Paradise Seeds tests its varieties in Spain, the seed bank originated in the Netherlands. This means it knows how to develop its varieties for more northerly regions, where the weather is less clement and wetter at the end of the season. You can find the results of this Test Field on the Paradise Seeds Youtube channel.
