Denmark: the government accepts free medical cannabis for the terminally ill
Denmark, which has a 4-year test of the legalization of medical cannabis for certain pathologies, has decided to go even further: the government has agreed to distribute medical cannabis free of charge to terminally ill people.
For patients who are not terminally ill, medical cannabis will also be 50% cheaper.
The agreement will only be effective from January 1, 2019, but will be retroactive, according to the daily. DR Nyheder.
To date, some 200 people have received medical cannabis as part of the pilot project that began on January 1 this year. But there have been many protests about the excessive price of the drugs.
«The way I see it, it's important that medical cannabis is subsidized so that everyone can benefit, regardless of their income,» explained Rep. Dansk Folkeparti, Liselott Blixt.
She would have preferred to see these subsidies sooner. «It's not very helpful for those who could benefit now and are dying. I'll see if I can persuade the Minister to pass an accelerated bill,» said Liselott Blixt.
