Freeworld
The Freeworld coffeeshop was located at Nieuwendijk 30, on the pedestrian shopping street in the center of Amsterdam, just a few hundred meters from Centraal station. It was an atypical address in the Amsterdam landscape: an internet café-coffeeshop, where you could simultaneously buy cannabis, consume alcohol and rent a computer workstation - a rare combination that Dutch law normally makes difficult.
The interior had a decidedly spacey decor: a flying saucer on the ceiling, aliens hanging everywhere, upholstered banquettes and a reggae dub atmosphere that contrasted with the science-fiction decor. Despite its rough, dated look, it was a sincere address, appreciated for the quality of its products - notably the White Widow and Orange Bud regularly cited in reviews - and for its warm, unpretentious atmosphere.
Freeworld stopped selling cannabis in April 2015, transforming itself into «Freeworld Experience» and then «Cafe Bar Amsterdam», a smoker's bar where pure cannabis consumption remains tolerated but is no longer on sale. The venue thus retains part of its identity, but is no longer a coffeeshop as such.
