De Kade
De Kade is one of Amsterdam's most popular coffeeshops, open since 1984 at Stadionkade 107 in the Stadionbuurt district, right in the Oud-Zuid. Just a five-minute walk from the 1928 Olympic Stadium and easily accessible by bus from the city center, this is an address that deliberately gets off the tourist trail, and that's precisely its strength.
The interior is warm and inviting, with art deco decor, plants, subdued lighting and comfortable sofas where you can settle in for a while. A jukebox, table soccer and pinball machine complete the ambience. And there's a cat. Regulars will tell you: De Kade is more like a lounge than a coffeeshop.
The selection is one of the widest in southern Amsterdam: flowers, resins, rosin, and a menu of edibles that goes far beyond the standard brownie: Red Velvet Space Muffin, Vanilla Choco Muffin, Chocolate Chip Space Cookie, vegan desserts. The coffee is good. Prices are reasonable, well below those in the tourist center. The staff are unanimously praised for their competence, availability and warmth.
De Kade is regularly cited as the best coffeeshop in Amsterdam by locals who know the scene well. An address well worth a detour from the center.
