CBG authorized for use in cosmetics by the European Union
The European Commission has added cannabigerol (CBG) to the EU's cosmetic ingredients database (Cosing), meaning that this compound is safe for use in health and beauty products.
The CBG acts on the CB1 and CB2 endocannabinoid receptors located in the skin. Cannabigerol has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant properties that help the endocannabinoid system maintain healthy skin function.
Once CBG penetrates the epidermis, it reaches the basal and subcutaneous layers of the skin, where it helps calm inflammation, reduce blemishes, purify pores, balance sebum production and improve cell renewal.
CBG is known as the «mother» cannabinoid, the precursor of all other cannabinoids such as CBD, CBN, CBC or THC in their acid form.
CBD of natural origin, which has been added to the Cosing database at the beginning of the year, and synthetic CBD, are also authorized for use in EU cosmetics, just like hemp leaves.
CBG registration at Cosing can be seen here.
