Cannabimovone (CBM), the future cannabinoid for treating diabetes?
An Italian study published in the March issue of the journal Molecules showed that cannabimovone (CBM) could prove effective in treating metabolic disorders, eating disorders and diabetes.
CBM, a little-known cannabinoid recently decrypted, shares certain chemical similarities with CBD. It was only synthesized than in 2016.
Today's study carried out two series of tests on CBM. The first test used 3D modelling to determine whether CBM had the ability to bind to receptors in the human body. The second part of the study tested whether CBM actually bound to these receptors.
3D modeling has shown that CBM can partially activate two important types of receptor, known as PPARα and PPARγ (PPAR stands for Peroxisome Proliferator Activated Receptor). These two receptors control the genes responsible for cell creation in our major organs (heart, liver, kidneys, muscles, colon, pancreas, spleen...). They also regulate metabolism and participate in the formation of certain cancers. And the researchers discovered that CBM actually binds to and partially activates PPARα and PPARγ.
«Overall, these results make CBM a good candidate for the treatment of disorders related to insulin resistance,» the researchers wrote. CBM could «stimulate insulin signaling, paving the way for further studies to evaluate the suitability of CBM as an antidiabetic and an insulin-sensitizing drug, thus opening up new therapeutic alternatives for patients who still lack effective and safe long-term treatment.»
The study of Molecules worked with an Italian hemp variety, Carmagnola, which is also available from in the French hemp catalog.
