Vermont: Senate votes to legalize cannabis
The Vermont Senate voted yesterday to legalize cannabis. Visit bill H.551 will allow any adult of legal age to possess and cultivate cannabis. All that remains is for Governor Phill Scott to sign the text. Legalization will come into effect on July 1, 2018.
Vermont is the first U.S. state to legalize cannabis through a legislative process, and not a citizens' initiative like the other states.
Vermont residents will be able to possess 28 grams of cannabis in public, and will be allowed to grow 6 plants at home (2 flowering, 4 growing), with the landlord's consent if the property is rented.
For the moment, the state does not authorize the sale of cannabis. So there will be no dispensaries in Vermont.
Law enforcement officials made a last-ditch attempt to delay the vote, The state should wait for a commission to study the effect of legalization on public health and safety, and other issues.
Governor Phil Scott already announced that he was ready to sign the future law.
It seems that Jeff Sessions' doubts don't scare many people.
