6 vacation destinations where you should never use cannabis
Since cannabis is illegal in France, many French people take advantage of their vacations to see if the grass is greener elsewhere. But this would be to overlook the fact that some countries treat cannabis even more harshly than France.
Here are 6 vacation destinations where you definitely shouldn't try cannabis.
Malaysia
Malaysia has everything it takes to be a great vacation destination. From the paradisiacal beaches of the Perhentians to the tea fields of the Cameron Highlands and vibrant Kuala Lumpur, the country is well worth a visit. But it also has some of the strictest laws on drugs, with death penalties still on the cards. Better stick to Tiger or Chang.
China
Cities such as Beijing and Hong Kong may attract many tourists, but cannabis consumption should be avoided. For simple possession, the penalty can range from 10 to 15 days' imprisonment and a €260 fine (2,000 yuan). Smuggling can be punishable by death.
United Arab Emirates
DubaI, its skyscrapers and artificial islands. But also its harsh drug laws. To estimate the harshness of Emirati drug law, we'll just mention the case of this Briton who tested positive for cannabis while being treated with Sativex in the UK, and faces up to 2 years in prison.
South Korea
For once, the neighbor to the north seems more indulgent than the South. Here too, the presence of cannabis in your body can lead to several months in prison. We hope all the American athletes returned home safe and sound from the Olympics.
Sweden
You don't have to go to the other side of the world to come across fairly closed-minded policies on cannabis. Sweden is one of the European countries with the toughest laws, alongside France. But cannabis consumption is much less accepted there. Beyond the criminal penalties you'll face (from a fine to 6 months in prison), you may not make many friends there.
Japan
Cannabis an integral part of Japanese history. But possession is still punishable by one to five years« imprisonment. You may prefer to climb the slopes of Mount Fuji on an empty stomach.
