Israel approves first medical cannabis vaporizer
Israel's Ministry of Health has just approved the first cannabis vaporizer for medical use, the VapePod. And although vaporizers aren't really a new invention, Israel is becoming the first country in the world to certify such a device for therapeutic purposes.
But what’s so special about this vaporizer? According to Kanabo Research, the company that just received this certification, its device can deliver precise doses of cannabis. It works using cartridges filled with cannabis extracts, each designed to produce a specific effect based on its formulation.
The goal is to provide this product to patients who have had difficulty finding the correct dosages in the past or who used to consume their cannabis by smoking it. The company hopes that vaporization will lead to better treatments and more precise administration of medical marijuana.
«This approval is an important milestone for medical patients treated with cannabis, who will be able to use this vaporizer for the first time,» said Avihu Tamir, CEO of Kanabo Research to the Jerusalem Post.
Kanabo Research is a small company with 12 employees, but it is already among the top 50 companies working on medical cannabis in Israel. It has already spent approximately $100 million on the development of this medical cannabis inhaler, as well as on its other products.
« »We hope that, as most cannabis consumers switch to vaporizers, our company will reach $10 million in sales within three years in the Israeli market, while the global market is expected to reach $100 million in sales within three years. The Israeli market serves as a springboard for bringing our technology to the U.S. and European markets.”.
Kanabo has begun preclinical testing on the sleep disorders. The next version of the vaporizer, the VapePod MD, is expected to be able to collect certain data so that doctors and scientists can monitor how patients use it.
A California-based company had been ranked by *Time* among the most innovative of 2017 with a similar spray bottle.
