Tokyo Cannabis: a manga between Breaking Bad and Family Business
We've heard of James Bong-style stoner comics, but we're less familiar with cannabis-loving manga. On February 23, the evocatively named Tokyo Cannabis manga will be released in French.
Signed Yûto Inai, this seinen, Zenon, a work for adults, has been prepublished in Japan in Coamix/Tokuma Shoten's Comic Zenon magazine since 2021, and is still ongoing, with 5 volumes to date. In France, it will be published by Big Kana.
The scenario lies at the intersection of Breaking Bad and Family Business: «Sento Morio, a 41-year-old father and horticultural enthusiast, runs his own flower store. Overwhelmed by the store's difficult financial situation, Morio has no choice but to start growing a more profitable plant... cannabis.
Urged on by his friend Kagayama, Morio reluctantly agrees to become a shadow grower. Never one to abandon his love of plants, he sets himself the goal of creating the best cannabis in Japan. Between gang conflicts and police investigations, his days will not be easy... »
Volume 2 is scheduled for release on May 17, 2024. In the meantime, you can find an extract from Volume 1 below, as well as the trailer. A chance to reconnect with’A shared history of Cannabis and Japan !
